The $500K LinkedIn Message

I sent about 100 people the same message.

The $500K LinkedIn Message

"I'm Gev, I do product design, here's my website."

One person replied. That reply turned into a six-figure deal with a company in New York. That client introduced me to another founder. That founder introduced me to a third. Three deals, north of $500K, from a sentence I wrote in under 30 seconds.

I met Jason years ago through the Wealthsimple crew. I did the rebrand and website for two of his companies. Jason has referred me roughly $1 million in business since. I never asked him to.

Mike introduced me to his sister Amy when she started Estate Kit. Dave, employee #3 at Wealthsimple, back when it was him, Som, and Mike, told me to start my own business and became my first client.

Martha referred me to Syzl. Syzl referred me to DMZ. Martha, more recently, sent me a global health company for a full rename, rebrand, and website.

I don't run ads. I don't nickel-and-dime clients. I give advice that costs me money. I do favors I never invoice for.

I fired a client last year. First time I'd ever fired one. Was sure it would cost me. The relationship, my reputation, and whatever goodwill I'd built with that network. It did cost me the relationship. It didn't touch the referrals.

If you're waiting on a marketing plan before you start reaching out: send the boring message. A hundred small ones beat one clever campaign.

Thanks for reading,
Gev

PS. Also building a thing called Juggle. I give out a lot of intros. When I say I'll make one, I tell Juggle and it reminds me before I flake. No bot in the meeting. Nobody sees it. Beta's open if you want in: joinjuggle.com
