FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Gev Design is a fractional design and product studio for early-stage teams — here is how we work, what we make, and what it is like to build together.
How we work
What does Gev Design do?
Gev Design is a fractional design and product studio. At our core we do product design and branding for startups — but we also handle front-end development, copywriting, growth marketing, and strategy. For later-stage teams, we help redesign how the org works: hiring, process, and adopting AI across product, design, and engineering.
What is a fractional design and product partner?
A fractional design and product partner is a senior partner who embeds with your team part-time instead of joining full-time. You work directly with Gev as your lead, backed by an established studio team. You get strategic product, design, and brand leadership — and the people doing the work — without the cost or lead time of full-time hires.
How is this different from a design agency?
Traditional agencies route you through account managers and junior handoffs, and need tightly scoped briefs before they start. We work embedded and direct — senior people only, no translation layers. We join your Slack, ship weekly, and give feedback that improves the product, not just the pixels. It’s closer to a co-founder relationship than a vendor one.
How is it different from a full-time hire?
A full-time senior hire means months of recruiting, equity, and long-term commitment before anything ships. Fractional gives you senior product, design, and strategy from day one, scaled up or down as you need it. You get the output immediately, without the overhead or the risk of a permanent hire that may not fit your stage.
Who’s on your team?
Gev Design is an established studio, not a solo freelancer. Gev leads every engagement, backed by a senior team and a trusted network of top operators across operations, product management, development, design, and copywriting. We assemble the right people for each project, so you get specialist depth without managing a roster of separate vendors.
What we do
What do you deliver?
Our core is product design (UX/UI) and branding. Around that we deliver design systems, marketing websites, prototypes, pitch and investor decks, copywriting, and front-end development. We also run strategy across the board — product, brand, and go-to-market — so the work is grounded in business goals, not just visuals.
Do you build, or just design?
Both. Alongside design we do development — primarily front-end and marketing sites — and work hand-in-hand with your engineers on product builds. That means we can take work from strategy through design to a shipped, polished product, instead of handing off static files and hoping they survive implementation.
Do you do growth marketing and ads?
Yes — we help tech companies grow, not just look good. That includes growth strategy and building advertising creative — the ads and campaigns that drive signups and conversions. Because we own the brand, product, and messaging too, the growth work stays consistent end-to-end, from the first ad a user sees to the product they sign up for.
Can you help us fix our org, hiring, and process?
Yes — this is a dedicated track for later-stage and scaling companies. We come in to help redesign how your team operates: restructuring the org, hiring the right people, and tightening product, design, and engineering processes so the team ships faster. The goal is durable speed, not a one-off project.
Do you do AI audits and AI enablement?
Yes — we audit how your organization works and show your team how to actually adopt AI — across product management, engineering, and design. Rather than solving one-off problems, we help change how the whole team operates with AI: workflows, tooling, and habits that make everyone meaningfully faster. It’s enablement, not a demo.
Working together
What stage and type of company do you work with?
Our primary clients are startups — typically founders from pre-seed through Series A who need to define and build the right thing quickly. We also work with later-stage and scaling companies on org design, hiring, process, and AI enablement. The common thread is venture-backed teams where design and product are a real advantage.
What does a typical engagement look like?
Engagements are embedded and weekly. Expect working sessions and workshops, a standing weekly meeting, and work that ships continuously rather than in big-bang deliverables. We plug into your existing developers and product managers so things move at startup speed and land in production — not just in Figma.
What industries do you focus on?
Most of our work is in AI/ML, fintech, crypto and Web3, and productivity and data platforms, with selective work in biotech and health, climate, and legal tech. The common thread is venture-backed companies solving a hard problem where design and product are genuine competitive advantages, not decoration.
Logistics
How much does it cost?
Pricing is scoped per engagement, because every team’s stage, scope, and timeline are different. Rather than a fixed package, we put together a proposal tailored to what you actually need. The fastest way to get a number is to start a conversation — tell us what you’re building and we’ll come back with a clear scope.
How quickly can you start?
Because there’s no hiring process, engagements can usually begin within days, not months. Availability depends on current client load — we deliberately keep the roster small — so it’s best to reach out early. We reply to every inquiry within 24 hours.
Where are you based?
We’re based in Toronto, Canada, and work remotely with startups and scaling teams across North America and beyond. Collaboration happens over Slack and weekly calls, so location is rarely a constraint.
